Cochlear Microphonic Latency
Introduction and objective: By using appropriate instrumentation, we have found that cochlear microphonics (CM) advance or delay their appearance, depending on the sound pressure that generates them. This time variation is on the order of microseconds. We have not found any reference to this behaviour, which is why we make the finding known. Materials and method: We used the standard instrument...

متن کاملThe Group Delay and Suppression Pattern of the Cochlear Microphonic Potential Recorded at the Round Window
BACKGROUND It is commonly assumed that the cochlear microphonic potential (CM) recorded from the round window (RW) is generated at the cochlear base. Based on this assumption, the low-frequency RW CM has been measured for evaluating the integrity of mechanoelectrical transduction of outer hair cells at the cochlear base and for studying sound propagation inside the cochlea. However, the group d...
متن کاملSome dualistic properties of the cochlear microphonic.
Within a small frequency range just above the characteristic frequency of a differential electrode pair, cochlear microphonic input-output functions are bimodal, exhibiting two maxima. The more sensitive, low-intensity response has a more limited linear operating range, and it is more labile due to acoustic fatigue or hypoxia. After fatigue or hypoxia, the high-intensity response is revealed. T...
متن کاملCochlear microphonic enhancement in two tone interactions.
Two tone interaction functions of the cochlear microphonic (CM) were obtained from pigmented guinea pigs. First (basal) cochlear turn recording locations show optimally enhanced levels of CM when the interfering tone (F2) was positioned about 4 kHz above probe tones (F1) of 12 kHz and 20 kHz. Maximum enhancement occurred for equal level tones. No enhancement was seen for a probe tone of 4 kHz. ...
